When you read a cost range or timeline estimate on this site, you deserve to know where those figures come from. This page explains our process for compiling, verifying, and presenting numerical data.

Court Fees

Court filing fees and related charges are taken directly from the published fee schedules of the Malaysian courts. These schedules are set by subsidiary legislation and are publicly available. We cite the specific schedule and item number for each fee we quote.

Legal Fees

Lawyer fee ranges are compiled from multiple sources:

• Solicitors' Remuneration Order: The statutory scale of fees prescribed under the Legal Profession Act 1976 for conveyancing and certain contentious matters.
• Bar Council guidelines: Published fee guidelines and recommendations from the Malaysian Bar.
• Aggregated professional estimates: Where statutory or Bar Council scales do not cover a specific service, we aggregate estimates from published legal directories, firm websites, and publicly quoted ranges.

Every fee range on this site includes a note on which source type applies. Figures based on aggregated estimates are clearly marked as indicative rather than fixed.

Timelines

Estimated timelines for divorce proceedings draw from:

• Statutory waiting periods prescribed by Act 164 (such as the three-month reconciliation period for joint petitions)
• Published court key performance indicators and scheduling practices
• Aggregated professional experience, where published data is limited

We present timelines as ranges to reflect the variation between courts and case complexity.

Currency and Review

All compiled figures are reviewed at least once a year or whenever the underlying source changes (for example, an updated court fee schedule). Each page carrying numerical data displays a "data last reviewed" date.
